Tinberg and Berger have changed my opinion on the definition on text by showing there are new ways to let out text. There is visual publicities that have huge meaning to them such as a huge essay would. The difference is instead of a bunch of words it like a image that brings out sort of emotions and a catchy slogan. The new definition of text doesn't necessarily have to be just a huge essay you could see images and have a huge meaning symbolizing it. Also text and culture creates different conversations because they have different customs of saying things and different language. Different slangs, people from different culture can be text. Literally anything can be considered a text as long as you have a different understanding of it.

influence ideas  more than just said  modern historical consequences  publicity images  stimulates imagination  the publicity image belongs to the moment  advertisements  continually renewed up-to-date  never speak of the present  memories correspond with images  publicity  emotions  ethos, pathos, logos  the free world "A person may notice a particular image or piece of information because it corresponds to some particular interest he has."(7). This quote is saying that a lot of the reasons people choose certain images to portray the message they are trying to send out is something anyone can relate to. If you can relate to it you'll pay attention that's the key.  "Publicity is the culture of the consumer society." (140). Publicity is key in order to spread the word. When publicizing something it is important to put it everywhere in order to be seen.  "It is true that in pu...

Proofreading to me is like when you are reading a writing and you see if there are any mistake in the writing. You could look for grammar mistakes, punctuation mistakes, and etc. Proofreading can also involve fixing transitions and the flow of your writing. In writing workshops it is the writers job to proofread and the readers job to just revise and suggest things to change in your writing.

So its important as readers to know hoe to create the meaning on our own. "To examine the strategies you can use to understand how image and texts convey meaning."(237). Sometimes the symbols create an idea that they are trying to put out for people to understand the reason for the advertisements. They use ethos, pathos, and logos for it to be relatable to people....

PW#7 Unit 1 Reflection

After the past 4 weeks I feel that I have gotten a bigger understanding of how to write a better essay. By reading the book They say, I say, I learned about how to use quotations, and how to introduce them. I also learned that texts are very important to a reader because it can give certain emotions that a person can relate to their personal experiences. I learned that expressing the relevance is as important as inserting the quote that way you are not just throwing random quotes into a paragraph. I think the essay I wrote, my first essay in a while actually, is decent. I feel like it could be better but I personally don't know how to write a good essay about my personal self and relate it to anything because I think it hard for me to try and relate to someone or something else. But after getting with my group and reading their narratives and getting feedback from them it really helped me fix my essay, but I do think it could use some improvement. Considering the fact that this i...

I feel like my draft is not very good. I think it could use a lot of work, my transitions aren't as smooth as the could be. Also I think I could use some help explaining how I want to say this things I am trying to express a little better. Also I could use some help on Breaking down my paragraphs and adding better vocabulary. Another thing is I think I sound very repetitive in each paragraph. So I could use some pointers from my group to help express more of my point of what I'm trying to say in my draft.

I'm looking forward to hearing the different ideas that my group comes up with when reading the book. I would like to hear their thoughts and opinions and how they see the story though their own eyes compared to mine. I think what might be challenging is being on the same page as my own group, like I hope we are all reading and working together so that we can fully understand what is going on in the book and we all are doing the equal amount of work.

PW #4

For my draft I was trying to gather up ideas of what I would write. I plotted down ideas of my opinions and what interested me to write about. I think for this essay I would like to focus on how to arrange my essay in a clear way, to make it flow more. I want to leave how not have my essay just all over the place. I would like to learn a new way to come up with good transitions and how not to be so repetitive.

On the sticky notes I will write at least 3 to 5 sentences to sum up what that page is about. Doing this will help me because if I have to go back and find a key event the sentences will help remind me where that event took place. I will also write down key quotes that stood out to me on the sticky notes.

Introduction:  How we can improve our writing  The important of quoting  Framing quotes  The relevance of texts Clarifying the text for audience How to answer the "so what?" and "who cares?" Chapter #3 Quote exact words Quotations are orphans Find the right place for them to fit in and explain quotes Frame every quote Quotation sandwich Introduce the quote (bread) explain the relevance of quote (bread) actual quote (“meats”) Better too overly explain quotes then just to leave the quotation dangling Quoting is a very crucial step in writing summaries because it shows that you're unbiased and fully understood what you have read. “Quoting someone else's words gives a tremendous amount of credibility to your summary and helps ensure that its fair and accurate”(43). Expanding your thought with a quote present in a book helps a summary be less boring. If you result back to credit what the book says it shows that you found so...
