Its pretty common that students do not like writing or reading. Its always a good idea to find fun ways to get people more interested in adapting ways to enjoy writing. "Another hoped we would "get out of our systems" our interest in young people across the street from the university and return to focus our sole attention on the more legitimate goal of improving writing within our own institution."(79). Their goal was to try and improve the writing skills and also have them enjoy doing it. If you start to gain skills it suddenly doesn't feel like a drag anymore to complete those assignments. 

When writing it is important to know the rules and specific steps to writing. When you know more it seems more simple and there is less room for mistakes. "When the rules of speech situation are not known or accepted, confusion, or something worse, my result." (80). When you know the rules it helps write a better essay and it makes it more smooth and natural. Knowing the steps is a step you must know so that way you become a better writer.


A lot of kids go into high school as freshmen intimidated by big essays to write. But in reality is it not as terrifying as it is set to be there are many ways teachers can help break it down. "The key is presentation of clear, engaging discourse as a springboard to student writing."(82).  Its important to talk it out and explain thoroughly. Considering this transition is so different they need to discuss and take it step by step.
