"Writing was just for me; it was my secret, like my favorite places to go off to be alone I often  wandered aimlessly over my community with siiinense space dotted with large cotton trees, tenanted
by acres and acres of cane and banana fields"(Adisa 184). Being able to have a talent in writing is important because it is a way to express yourself in a way of words that others can understand.

"One had to die to be a writer, and I was not prepared to die, even for the glory of seeing my words in print. More important, I believed [only people who lived elsewhere, and who talked‘ about sleet which I could not imagine, and watched daffodils, were writers."(Adias 186). She is saying that being a writer is hard because of the fact that not everyone makes it in the business. This is why she never considered herself a writer.
