by acres and acres of cane and banana fields"(Adisa 184). Being able to have a talent in writing is important because it is a way to express yourself in a way of words that others can understand.

She is saying that being a writer is hard because of the fact that not everyone makes it in the business. This is why she never considered herself a writer.
