“To be black in the Baltimore of my youth was to be naked before the elements of the world, before
all the guns, fists, knives, crack, rape, and disease” (17). This quote shows that people of color are
 vulnerable and scared to present themselves because of the fact that people frown upon them.

“the changes have awarded me a rapture that comes only when you can no longer be lied to,

 when you have rejected the Dream” (116). This quote expresses that dreams cant always come true for

everyone. It isn't fair but it is the sad reality of the society.
