Some tips for reading sources can include, "Skimming a book or an article entails briefly looking over the elements we have discussed so far"(134).  This helps of you want a basic idea of the sources without taking too much time. 

Expanding your sources can help expand you central idea. "Strategies for expanding the base of sources you work with to support your argument"(120). It'll make your essay more creditable and informational.
