"What makes such writers so hard to read, in other words is that they never gesture back what they have just said"(106). When it mentions this in the book "they say I say", I believe they are mentioning that sometimes readers don't fully get the point as to where the author is taking the book. The readers cannot unlock the code the writer has presented to the readers. 

"Some transitions can help you not only to move from one sentence to another, but combine two or more sentences"(111). When it comes to transitions it is very important for them to be used in order for your sentences and writings to have a specific flow where someone can read it clearly and the writings will make sense.
