"If you want to be American, speak 'American.' If you don't like it, go back to Mexico where you belong." Gloria is at school and a teacher got mad at her for over speaking when she was just trying to fix the pronunciation of her name. The teacher then say is she wants to be American she needs to speak it and if not to go back where she came from which is what makes Gloria enraged and why she doesn't want to hold her wild tongue.
"To be close to another Chicana is like looking into a mirror. We are afraid of what well see there." I believe that maybe they are afraid to be near each other is because they will be targeted as Mexicans who don't belong so they need to front and act as if they are 'American.'
"Los Chicanos, how patient we seem, how very patient, There is the quiet of the Indian about us." They need to be patient in order to surive when other are not capable of doing it. This is what makes Mexicans much more powerful than other because of their patents and willingness to work hard.
Questions:
What does Gloria later become?
Does Gloria get her family?
